How Freed Sailors Started

Nick Terlizzi and Matthew Racine started Freed Sailors in the dorm room at Northwestern University St. Paul during their sophomore year. They had a vision for the lost and wanted to create a clothing brand representing the vision of the gospel as inspiration.

Imagine yourself drowning in the deep waters of the ocean. You are hopeless, helpless, and alone. Time’s running out, and your life’s on the line. But out on the horizon, you see a sailboat, and it’s coming straight for you. As the sailboat approaches, you see your Rescuer. With an outstretched arm, Jesus pulls you up out of the water, brings you onboard into His love, and gives you new life. As a result, you are now a Freed Sailor. You are freed because Jesus rescued you from your sin and death. And you are also a sailor because you now freely labor for your Captain, Jesus.

From the beginning, we wanted to create a brand that displays and showcases the lifestyle of a Christian. Our goal is to mobilize a generation of Christians to walk out their new identity of freedom in Christ. Through the brand, we want to give you a platform to express your values and identity, and share your freedom with the world
